Racing on the river
Sunday afternoons and Wednesday evenings throughout the sailing season. All abilities welcome.
Racing at Henley Sailing Club is club racing at its best — informal enough to be fun, competitive enough to be interesting. The river setting adds a layer of complexity you don’t get offshore: unpredictable winds off the tree line, bends, tidal variations, and river traffic in the summer months.
We use a personal handicap system, which means boats of different types race together fairly. If you’re new to racing, you’ll be racing alongside experienced sailors from the start — and that’s the fastest way to improve.
New to racing?
If you’ve sailed before but never raced, don’t be put off. There’s always someone happy to explain the rules and the course before a race. The best way to learn is to enter.
What boats do people sail?
Members sail a variety of single-handed and double-handed dinghies. Common boats at the club include Lasers, Enterprises, Merlin Rockets, Picos, Mirrors, and various other handicap dinghies.
We also have club boats available for members who don’t have their own.
